Gaza City - Children from the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip have broken the world
record for dribbling basketballs, a United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA)
official said on Friday.
Adnan Abu Hasna, UNRWA's spokesperson in Gaza, said 7 203 children in summer
camps supervised by the international organisation took part in the effort on
Thursday.
They broke the previous world record for dribbling basketballs set in the
state of Indiana in the United States in 2007, where 3 054 people dribbled all
at once.
The UNRWA schoolchildren, aged between six and 15, all stood in carefully
designed patterns comprising squares painted on the runway, and dribbled for 15
minutes.
"I believe that the Gaza Strip children managed to send two messages to the
world. The first is that if those children are given the opportunity, they will
be the first in the world," said Abu Hasna.
The second, he said, was that they drew attention to Gaza's isolation and
Israeli blockade, by holding the event at the defunct Gaza Airport, destroyed by
Israel.
"The event was very successful and the kids all received a complementary gift
of one original basketball each," said Abu Hasna.
"We are all happy. We never dreamt of breaking world records," said Hanan, a
13-year-old Palestinian girl who participated in the event.
John Ging, chief of operations at UNRWA, told the children that "this event
is just a message to everybody that you are brilliant kids and you are the world
champions".
Israelis kill 19 civilians in its attack on Horeya
"Freedom" Flotilla
May 31, 2010.
Sydney Morning Herald journalist Paul McGeough and photographer Kate
Geraghty were travelling with a flotilla which tried to breach an
Israeli blockade in an attempt to deliver aid to the besieged
Palestinian territory. Reports suggest up to 19 people died in a clash
which occurred when Israeli forces moved in to block the flotilla's
passage. Contact with the two Australians was lost for some hours,
sparking fears for their welfare. Fairfax's Peter Fray confirmed that
they were safe "and being processed in an Israeli detention centre".
Another 30 people were wounded in the attack, sparking fury from
Turkish and Palestinian leaders. The UN Security Council has called
emergency talks on the crisis triggered when Israeli navy commandos
stormed a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, as the incident sparked protests
around the world and Israel claimed the flotilla was carrying weapons.
Israeli naval forces stormed the aid flotilla in international waters
before dawn. The deadly crackdown has drawn widespread international
condemnations. Tens of thousands of people have joined angry protests
across the world after a deadly Israeli raid on a Gaza-bound aid
flotilla, demanding retaliation and showing support for the
Palestinians. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said he was "shocked" by
the Israeli assault. The UN and the European Union both demanded a full
inquiry.
About 600 people were travelling on six ships, dubbed the "Freedom
Flotilla", which activists said was trying to deliver medical and other
supplies to the occupied territory. The attack plunged Israel into a
diplomatic crisis on the eve of talks between US President Barack Obama
and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who last night gave "full
backing" to his forces.
Turkey has led international calls to isolate Israel after its army
commandos shot dead at least 10 activists during a raid on a flotilla
trying to deliver aid to the Gaza strip.

Who started the 2009 war in the Gaza Strip?
A ceasefire was
arranged by Egypt between Hamas and Israel in June 2008.
On Nov. 4, 2008, Israel ground forces attacked Palestinians and
destroyed tunnels they claimed were being used to prepare for the
kidnapping of an Israeli soldier. (No proof, just their press
releases, of course.)
Nov. 5, Hamas responds and attacks the Israeli outpost where the
Israeli assault started.
Israel responds with air assault. Israel air assaults continue
through Dec. 19 killing 20 Palestinians in t he period.
Hamas declares cease-fire, that they had hoped to renew, ended.
Dec. 27, 2008, Israel launches massive air strikes against
civilian centers in the Gaza Strip killing more than 1000 by this writing,
mostly civilians. Quiz: Who broke the cease
fire and started this conflict?
Israeli fighter planes have been bombing Gaza and continuing their killing process
issued by the Israeli criminal government. Life in Gaza is worsening every day,
Palestinians are suffering because of this war against them.
Israeli Orders Palestinian to Demolish His Home or
Face Penalty

The court said that if the man didn't tear his own home down, he would pay
for demolition expenses and serve six months in jail.
(OCCUPIED JERUSALEM) - The Israeli district court in occupied Jerusalem has
ruled that Adel Tamimi, a Jerusalemite, should knock down his own home in the
Old City of Jerusalem. It is reported that the ruling was made under threatening
conditions. The court said that if Tamimi did not tear his own home down he
would have to pay for the expenses of its demolition. The court said that in
addition, they would force him to serve a six-month long sentence in jail.
Tamimi said in a statement, "How can I destroy the house in which I lived for
17 years with my own hands!" He added, "Where will I go with my family? I have
paid all fines with the hope of obtaining a construction permit but to no
avail". He said that the land is owned by his family and that he had the
required documents to prove it.

city from its indigenous population and replace them with Jewish immigrants. source:

Demands grow for Gaza war crimes investigation
Israel is facing growing demands from senior UN officials and human rights
groups for an international war crimes investigation in Gaza over allegations
such as the "reckless and indiscriminate" shelling of residential areas and use
of Palestinian families as human shields by soldiers.
With the death toll from the 17-day Israeli assault on Gaza climbing above
900, pressure is increasing for an independent inquiry into specific incidents,
such as the shelling of a UN school turned refugee centre where about 40 people
died, as well as the question of whether the military tactics used by Israel
systematically breached humanitarian law. source:

News: The U.N. and Red Cross criticized Israel for imperiling relief workers and
restricting the delivery of aid throughout the Gaza Strip.
Tel Aviv - The United Nations suspended all activities in the Gaza Strip
Thursday, accusing Israeli soldiers of firing on a marked UN vehicle during a
three-hour humanitarian cease-fire initiated by Israel.
The international Red Cross also complained that Israel was imposing
"unacceptable" delays on its workers and said it was restricting its movement
inside Gaza during Israel's ongoing offensive against Hamas.
Just two days after a tank shell killed about 40 Palestinians, mostly
civilians, taking refugee in a UN school in the Jabaliya refugee camp, a
spokesman for the UN in Gaza accused the Israeli army of ignoring efforts to
coordinate movement amid the fighting.
The Red Cross complained that Israel is hindering access to civilians. Source:

UK Jewish lawmaker: Israeli forces acting like
Nazis
LONDON, England (CNN) 16 Jan 2009-- Israeli military action in Gaza is
comparable to that of German soldiers during the Holocaust, a Jewish UK lawmaker
whose family suffered at the hands of the Nazis has claimed.
Gerald Kaufman, a member of the UK's ruling Labour Party, also called for an
arms embargo on Israel, currently fighting militant Palestinian group Hamas,
during the debate in the British parliament Thursday.
"My grandmother was ill in bed when the Nazis came to her home town of
Staszow. A German soldier shot her dead in her bed," said Kaufman, who added
that he had friends and family in Israel and had been there "more times than I
can count."
